HPMC Safety and Production

HPMC Safety and Production

Raw Material Source: Made from cotton cellulose through processes such as alkali treatment and etherification.

Safety Certification: FDA approved for oral formulations; WHO has not set a daily intake limit (excessive intake may cause diarrhea).

Grading Standards: Classified into three types according to purity: pharmaceutical grade (Hypromellose), food grade, and industrial grade.

HPMC Application Areas

Core Applications

Building Materials

Cement Mortar Water Retention Agent: Extends setting time by approximately 30% and reduces hollowness by over 40%.

Tile Adhesive: Increases bond strength by over 1.5 MPa.

Pharmaceutical Preparations

Tablet Coating and Sustained-Release Carcass Material (Pharmaceutical Grade Hypromellose).

Eye Drop Thickener: Stabilizes solution pH within the range of 3-11.

Industrial Applications

PVC Suspension Polymerization Dispersant: Replaces traditional polyvinyl alcohol systems.

Coating Thickener: Increases coating viscosity by 80-120%.

HPMC Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose

Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose

HPMC is the abbreviation for hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, a non-ionic cellulose mixed ether. It possesses thickening, water-retaining, and film-forming properties, and is widely used in building materials, pharmaceuticals, food, and other fields.

HPMC Properties

Chemical Properties: White powdery cellulose derivative, soluble in cold water and some organic solvents. Aqueous solutions exhibit high transparency (methoxyl content 28-30%, hydroxypropoxyl content 7-10%).

Thermal Stability: Gel temperature varies with methoxyl content; carbonization temperature 280-300℃; discoloration temperature 190-200℃.

Physical Properties: Viscosity range 3-50 mPa·s (varies greatly between different grades); bulk density 0.25-0.70 g/cm³.
